Newcastle United handed Elliot Anderson transfer boost after confirmed news

Elliot Anderson may be much closer to a dramatic Newcastle United return after the latest update emerging from Nottingham Forest.

Football Insider understands that Newcastle are serious about bringing Anderson back to St James’ Park, just months after departing due to the club’s ongoing financial strains.

Since joining the Reds, the 22-year-old has gone from strength to strength, becoming an undroppable force of nature at the City Ground, as well as earning an England call-up from Thomas Tuchel.

Mick Brown told Football Insider that Man United are also interested in Anderson, with a growing list of potential suitors emerging for the talented midfielder.

The Magpies, however, might be about to edge ahead in this specific race.

Ross Wilson announced at Newcastle United

Ross Wilson has become the new sporting director at St James’ Park, leaving Forest after two short years at the club, and it is fair to say that supporters are excited about the appointment.

He was appointed as the chief football officer for the Reds after leaving Rangers, and it is highly likely that he had a big role to play in Forest landing Anderson’s signature back in the summer of 2024.

Wilson was also instrumental in moves for Nikola Milenkovic and Morato, both of whom have played a key role in the current campaign so far.

Now, though, he could come back to haunt his former club by raiding the squad for Anderson.

What Wilson has said about Elliot Anderson can only be a positive

Wilson has only ever spoken positively about the 22-year-old midfielder, and with Newcastle excited by the prospect of signing him, his appointment could give them an edge over any other suitor.

Of course, it would likely be much bigger money than his original £35million sale, but the Magpies are pushing to become one of the stronger teams in the Premier League. He would certainly help with that.

Even Sean Longstaff is outperforming his former Newcastle teammates.

Speaking back in 2024, Wilson spoke about the Reds’ signing of Anderson, saying: “We are sure he will thrive in a Forest shirt, as other players in his age profile have done.

“As soon as the opportunity arose for him to potentially join, it was something we were all excited to make happen,” and while Forest will do everything to keep their player, Wilson’s move certainly adds a new dimension to the situation.
