Newcastle United have ‘breached’ financial rules, expert reveals likely punishment
Newcastle United have “breached” financial rules and are in line for a stiff punishment.
Finance expert Dan Plumley told Football Insider on 18 September that Man City’s APT ruling will not help Newcastle.
The Magpies missed out on several high profile players in the summer transfer window with financial constraints hampering the club.
Newcastle signed Yoane Wissa from Brentford on transfer deadline day to replace the outgoing Alexander Isak after failing to bring in Joao Pedro and Bryan Mbeumo.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the Toon are expecting to face a penalty for not abiding by UEFA’s financial loss rules.

Return to Champions League to bring short-term financial pain to Newcastle United
Finance specialist Stefan Borson told Football Insider on 1 July that Newcastle and Nottingham Forest could breach financial rules.
Both Aston Villa and Chelsea were fined by UEFA as Borson’s prediction could soon become a reality for the Magpies.
Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “I’m not sure it’ll have a massive effect on what Newcastle do in the next few years.
“Obviously it does look like they’re going to have a financial penalty for breaching UEFA’s loss making rules.

“They’re back in the Champions League now, Newcastle saw they have to abide by these financial controls imposed by UEFA.
“And it does seem the recent financial results from the period 2022 to 2025 indicates that they will have a breached UEFA’s 52 million loss limit. We’ve talked to numerous boards about how unfair it is.”
Financial repercussions could slow down pursuit of Kobbie Mainoo
Sources told Football Insider on 20 September that Man United want to retain Kobbie Mainoo despite Newcastle’s advances.
The Englishman is becoming increasingly frustrated with the lack of game time with Ruben Amorim opting to go with Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro as his midfield pairing.
Howe is keen to bolster his midfield to cope with the upcoming fixture congestions due to the involvement in the Champions League.

Both Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton were rested in the Toon’s 0-0 draw with Bournemouth on 21 September as the former Cherries boss aims to rotate his tiring midfield.
The UEFA sanctions could see the chase for Mainoo slow or even halt with the Magpies potentially having to wait for a later opportunity.
