Kieran Maguire: ‘Powerhouse’ Newcastle United have no limit after new finance reveal

PIF may be set to plough “significant investment” into the Newcastle United women’s side after welcoming them into the club’s ownership umbrella.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest news from behind the scenes at St James’ Park.

As relayed by BBC Sport last Sunday (21 August), Newcastle Women are now officially part of the club after a financial restructuring.

The fourth-tier side had previously operated independently with the support of the Newcastle United Foundation.

Investment in the women’s game is exempt from the Premier League and Uefa’s respective Financial Fair Play controls.

Newcastle could now pump extra cash into women’s team and capitalise on the “feel-good factor” generated by England’s Euro 2022 triumph, predicts Maguire.

“All Premier League clubs are semi-obliged to have a women’s team and it’s good to see more commitment in this area,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“I think the view of the powerhouse that is Newcastle is that they either do it properly or not at all. I think we could see significant investment in that area.

“There is a feel-good factor with regards to women’s football at present. I think Newcastle are in a position to ride that particular wave.”
