‘Newcastle given green light in Liam Delap pursuit’: ‘Formal talks planned’
Newcastle United are set to hold talks with Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap and his representatives ahead of the summer transfer window.
Delap has been a shining light for the already-relegated Tractor Boys, scoring 12 goals in 36 Premier League outings for Kieran McKenna’s men.
The 22-year-old has established his threat in the final third in the top-flight, while his £30million relegation release clause makes him a particularly attractive option for the likes of Newcastle.
His services have already caught the eye of both Chelsea and Manchester United, while Eddie Howe’s side have now entered the race.

Delap allowed to discuss his future amid Newcastle interest
Howe’s side enjoy the prolific services of Alexander Isak, but the Magpies are looking to bolster their forward options, as the outgoing Callum Wilson is wanted by Leeds United.

Meanwhile, according to the Northern Echo [21 May], Delap has been given permission to speak with interested parties such as Newcastle.
However, the report adds that the Magpies accept they face a battle to sign the England Under-21 international, who has already held talks with Man United.

Delap could be wary of Newcastle interest
While the Northern Echo report that the Magpies anticipate a battle to sign Delap, the 22-year-old may not want to agree terms with the North East club.
Howe’s men appear likely to retain the services of Isak, as the likes of Arsenal may not be able to afford the Sweden international’s services.
Therefore, if Delap joins Newcastle, he would merely serve as a backup option for the 25-year-old, which would not suit the Ipswich man at this point in his career.
Meanwhile, the Tractor Boys striker would likely earn more game time at Chelsea, where he could be seen as an upgrade on Nicolas Jackson, whereas Man United could have a more potent attack if they boasted the England youth international among their ranks, while Rasmus Hojlund has had a poor Premier League season.
At just 22 years old, Delap still boasts plenty of potential, but he will need plenty of minutes to fulfill that.
