Newcastle United news: Agbonlahor issues ‘honest’ verdict on potential Allan Saint-Maximin sale after ‘huge’ reveal
Allan Saint-Maximin should be the “main man” for Newcastle United, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted Saint-Maximin should be reintegrated into the starting XI when he fully recovers from injury.
The 25-year-old’s status has been questioned in recent weeks with Newcastle performing well and getting results without him.
He gave the ball away in the build-up to Everton’s winner in their 1-0 win over Eddie Howe’s side last week (17 March).
The i reported on Monday (21 March) the Frenchman remains a “huge” favourite of both Eddie Howe and the new ownership and is not for sale this summer.
Saint-Maximin has long been Newcastle’s only bright spark as they struggled under Steve Bruce and Agbonlahor has insisted he must remain the side’s focal point.
He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “He needs to be the main man.
“Yes, they’ve done well without him but he’s still their main threat. They will integrate him back into the side.
“Give him the ball and let him express himself because he’s still their main threat, to be honest.”
Saint-Maximin has scored five times and provided three assists in 26 Premier League games this season – no other Newcastle player has more goal contributions this term.

The club secured him to a long-term deal in October 2020 and he remains under contract for just over four more years.
The former France youth international has 23 goal contributions in 77 Premier League games for the Magpies.
In other news, a source has revealed Newcastle United are plotting a move to sign an ‘absolute beast’ as a new transfer mission is made.
