Newcastle United news: Agbonlahor swipes at Keiran Trippier after ‘strange’ image emerges
Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Keiran Trippier is “silly” to be travelling to Newcastle United away games while on crutches.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker suggested Trippier was doing it for the cameras and should have been home resting his injury.
The 31-year-old has not featured for Newcastle since the 1-0 win over Aston Villa last month (13 February) but was pictured in the dressing room after the 2-0 victory over Brentford on Saturday (26 February).
Eddie Howe told the BBC’s Football Focus programme the same day he has a “special relationship” with the England star and is with his teammates “every step of the way” despite his injury.
“I don’t understand that, to be honest, I think that’s strange,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“People will see that as amazing because he’s supporting the team but I see it as silly.
“You’ve got an injury, you’re on crutches, you should be at home with your feet up to rest the injury not struggling around on such a long trip to Brentford.
“I don’t see the point in that. If it’s an injury where you are not on crutches and are fine to walk that’s different.
“You’re on crutches, are you doing that for the cameras? Stay home, rest, with your foot up. It doesn’t make sense at all.”

Trippier managed just five appearances for Newcastle before his metatarsal injury.
He is under contract at St. James’ Park until the summer of 2024.
