Newcastle United news: Danny Mills issues ‘fabulous’ Kieran Trippier claim after update in last 48 hours
Danny Mills has claimed Kieran Trippier cannot have very little impact on the Newcastle United squad at the training ground while out injured.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and England full-back insisted Trippier has been “fabulous” and Newcastle will miss his key leadership qualities at the back.
As quoted by Sky Sports on Friday (18 February), Eddie Howe revealed the January signing had undergone a successful operation on a foot injury and is now racing to be fit before the end of the season.
Trippier’s arrival has coincided with Newcastle’s upturn in form with the side unbeaten in their last four Premier League games.
He was even handed the captain’s armband in their 1-0 win over Aston Villa in the absence of Jamaal Lascelles.
“He’s been fabulous,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“Forget about his set-piece delivery, it’s his calmness, his composure on the ball, his organisation skills at the back have been absolutely brilliant. That’s been his biggest influence.
“We’ve already talked about him looking like a future captain so without his influence at the back they might be a little bit rocky and there could be an opportunity for teams to get at them.
“It’s very, very difficult to have the same impact on the training ground when you’re injured.

“If you’re a team playing well and you’ve got a great player giving little bits of advice here and there it can help.
“But Newcastle need organisation on the pitch, they need that calmness on the pitch so I think it will be very difficult for him to have any significant impact when he’s not playing.”
