Newcastle United news: ‘Dream move’ claim made after Paul Pogba transfer report – pundit

Noel Whelan has tipped Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba to snub a potential move to Newcastle United this summer.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Magpies are not the “dream move” the 29-year-old will be looking for despite their wealthy owners.

As reported by the Sun (24 March), Newcastle have joined the race to sign Pogba when his contract runs out this summer.

Paris St Germain, Real Madrid and Juventus are among the European powerhouses reportedly in the hunt.

The France midfielder is out of contract at Old Trafford this summer.

Whelan insisted Newcastle now have the financial firepower to meet Pogba’s demands.

However, he suggested the Man United superstar would want to join one of Europe’s elite.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Newcastle? Is that going to be the dream move Pogba wants?

“I know they’ve got lots of money and it’s no disrespect to Newcastle but he’s probably looking at a Paris St Germain or Real Madrid. Somebody like that.

“The fact that they may have the money to go out there and pay for Pogba is fantastic for one. I’m sure Newcastle can do that.”

Pogba has struggled for form at Manchester United this season.

A hamstring injury kept him out of action between October and February.

He has played 23 times across all competitions this season, with one goal and nine assists under his belt so far.

Pogba has started six of Man United’s last seven league games, including the 4-1 derby day defeat to Manchester City.
