Newcastle United news: Eddie Howe ready for next level as talks underway – ‘incredible’
Noel Whelan has claimed Eddie Howe has proved himself to be “one of the best managers in the Premier League” as talks over a Newcastle United renewal begin.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 44-year-old is ready to take the Magpies project to the next level after building the “foundations” with an 11th-place finish.
According to the Daily Mail (19 May), Newcastle United are set to open contract talks with Howe this summer – after leaving the club’s Saudi owners “delighted” with his tenure thus far.

The former Bournemouth boss earned a Premier League Manager of the Year nomination for his efforts since taking over from Steve Bruce in November 2021.
As per Transfermarkt‘s form table, Newcastle would have finished sixth if the top-flight season started when Howe took the job.
Whelan claimed the Magpies boss has also proved he can be trusted in the transfer market after his January spending spree.
“He’s fit the club like a glove,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.
“He came in under difficult circumstances after a change of ownership. There was loads going on in the background, but he’s focused on the team 100%.
“Not only has he brought the right style of play, he’s also proved he can be trusted in the transfer market.
“Right now, he’s proving himself to be one of the best managers in the Premier League after the way he’s turned this Newcastle side around.

“It’s quite incredible – the foundations are in place, and now it’s time to build the first floor of the project.
“It’s a really attractive proposition.”
