Newcastle United news: Kieran Trippier swipes back at Gabby Agbonlahor on Twitter after ‘doing it for the cameras’ jibe
Kieran Trippier has hit back at Gabby Agbonlahor after he criticised him for travelling with the Newcastle United squad to away games.
The ex-Aston Villa and England attacker told Football Insider earlier this month (1 March) Trippier was “silly” to travel to the 2-0 win over Brentford (26 February) while on crutches and suggested he only did it “for the cameras”.
He was not with the squad for their 2-1 victory away at Southampton yesterday (10 March) but could not resist a swipe at Agbonlahor.
The England star posted a photoshopped image on Twitter of him with his teammates asking if he is allowed to support them in a clear swipe at Agbonlahor.
It comes after Newcastle United co-owner Jamie Reuben tweeted earlier this month (2 March) labelling the Football Insider pundit a “bore” for his view on Trippier.
Agbonlahor told this site last month: “I don’t understand that, to be honest, I think that’s strange.
“People will see that as amazing because he’s supporting the team but I see it as silly.
“You’ve got an injury, you’re on crutches, you should be at home with your feet up to rest the injury not struggling around on such a long trip to Brentford.
“I don’t see the point in that. If it’s an injury where you are not on crutches and are fine to walk that’s different.
“You’re on crutches, are you doing that for the cameras? Stay home, rest, with your foot up. It doesn’t make sense at all.”

Trippier’s absence has had little impact on Newcastle’s form under Eddie Howe with last night’s win making it a run of six victories in their last seven Premier League games.
Howe’s side were last beaten before Christmas and are up to 14th in the Premier League table.
