Newcastle United news: Pundit issues ‘absolutely massive’ Eddie Howe claim after confirmed news

Eddie Howe’s recent success at Newcastle United is down to their “absolutely massive” January signings.

That is the view of ex-England and Leeds United defender Danny Mills, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Howe was nominated for the Premier League manager of the month award for February on Thursday (3 March).

Newcastle picked up 10 points from a possible 12 last month and lifted themselves out of the relegation places for the first time all season.

They backed up their great month with a 2-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion yesterday to get March off to a winning start.

After a difficult start to life at St. James’ Park, Howe now has Newcastle unbeaten in the Premier League in 2022.

“The signings have been absolutely massive, they’ve been huge,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“What they’ve brought in, look at the leadership, especially with Kieran Trippier. That was absolutely huge and I know he’s missing now with injury.

“The signings have clearly helped, you cannot deny that. Eddie Howe has given them a lift and a bit more tactical nous but the signings have had a huge impact.

“They have got themselves into a decent position and it is now in their hands but as we’ve seen, over a weekend, the Premier League table can change quickly.”

Newcastle brought in Trippier, Chris Wood, Dan Burn, Bruno Guimarães and Matt Targett during the January window.

While Trippier, Wood, Burn and Targett have slotted straight into the starting XI, Guimarães is still waiting for his full debut.
