Newcastle United news: Pundit issues ‘massive’ claim after what he’s spotted Dan Burn doing
Dan Burn has had a “massive” impact on the Newcastle United defence since joining from Brighton, according to Alan Hutton.
The former Scotland full-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted he has been thrilled by the leadership and organisational qualities of the 29-year-old.
Burn has started Newcastle’s last two league games, helping them to a win over Aston Villa and a draw away at West Ham.
He partnered Fabian Schar at the back in both games.
Hutton hailed the giant defender’s impact after spotting him organising and marshalling his teammates.
Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “He’s been massive. In his first game, especially going back to your boyhood club, he probably had a little bit of nerves.
“You want to go out there, you want to play well and show what you’re capable of. If you look at the defensive line prior to him and Trippier coming, they were all over the place.
“Lascelles, Schar, Ciaran Clark, they were on a little bit of a downer because they were conceding lots of goals. Burn’s come in and you can see him pointing, shouting, telling people where they need to be.
“I think you need that figurehead within the back four. I’ve always had it when I’ve played and it always helps when you’ve got a talker there. He seems to be that guy.”

Burn joined his boyhood club for a reported £13million late in the January window.
His arrival saw Ciaran Clark left out of Newcastle’s 25-man Premier League squad.
