Newcastle United news: Pundit issues ‘massive’ Kieran Trippier claim after confirmed news
Kieran Trippier is a “massive part” of Newcastle already and his return could get Eddie Howe’s side over the line in their survival bid.
That is the view of former Leeds striker Noel Whelan, who was speaking exclusively to Football Insider in the wake of an update on the 31-year-old’s fitness.
As quoted by Chronicle Live after Newcastle’s 5-1 defeat away at Tottenham (3 April), Howe revealed he is “able to start pushing” Trippier following a scan on his metatarsal – although “maybe not as quickly as we initially wanted to”.

The Magpies boss insisted there is “no definitive date” on the right-back’s return – but suggested he should come back this season.
Trippier has been sidelined since suffering a broken metatarsal in the win over Aston Villa in mid-February.
Whelan claimed the England international is “already a real fan favourite” following his start to life at St James’ Park.
“He proved just how important he is in the performances after initially coming to Newcastle,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.
“His experience, his set-pieces, his presence in the training ground and in the dressing room – he’s a real leader out there.
“He’s already won points for Newcastle through his sheer quality, and that’s why they brought him in.
“He is a massive part of Newcastle already and has already become a real fan favourite.
“To have him back before the end of the season could be crucial to getting them over the line in terms of safety.”
Trippier completed a reported £12million move to Newcastle from Atletico Madrid in January.

The former Tottenham star scored two goals in five league games.
He is yet to taste Premier League defeat in a Magpies shirt.
