Newcastle United owners ready to ‘go for it’ in January as multiple deals expected – pundit

Newcastle United will “go for it” in January and make multiple signings to boost their chances of finishing in the top four.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Magpies’ January plans.

Newcastle went into the World Cup break third in the Premier League after only losing one of their opening 15 games of the season.

Eddie Howe’s side are serious contenders for a Champions League spot and McManus claims the club’s Saudi owners will bankroll a January spending spree to make sure the club return to Europe.

“I think they will go for it now,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“There are two ways of looking at it. You might think that they have done really well with the players they have so they don’t need to sign anyone.

“Or you could also think about how much better the club could be doing with a few more quality additions. We know the owners want success as quickly as possible.

“They will see Newcastle up in third and they will start to think about where their club could be if they spend a bit of money next month.

“I think there is a good chance Eddie Howe will be given a decent kitty to spend. Newcastle don’t really have the strength in depth yet so that is something Howe might look to fix.

“Clubs that have big squads will do well this season because the games are coming thick and fast. Yeah, I think it could be a big January on Tyneside.”

Newcastle are next in action against Leicester on Boxing Day.

The Foxes sit 13th in the table.
