Expert: PIF to bail Newcastle United out after £10m blow – ‘It’s massive’

Newcastle United will likely be bailed out by their ultra-rich owners after their pre-season tour of the United States was cancelled at the last minute.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

The Daily Mail reported last Tuesday (17 May) that the Ohio Cup, which was due to be contested by four teams in July, has been scrapped without explanation.

Newcastle Eddie Howe with his hand over his mouth

As quoted by Newcastle World last Saturday (21 May), Eddie Howe confirmed the news and admitted that he was “hugely disappointed”.

Finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley told Football Insider on Tuesday (24 May) that the tour could have been worth as much as £10million to the club.

But Dinnery suggests that the PIF regime will use their goliath spending power to organise a new pre-season programme at the eleventh hour.

“Pre-season is massive in terms of consideration around planning and load for the squad,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“Those things are meticulously planned out. So, it’s a slight worry in that regard. But I’m sure there will be more opportunities to play other teams.

“Newcastle have owners with very deep pockets. I’m sure they could get something organised, and I don’t think it is a huge concern.”

Newcastle finished 11th in 2021-22.

They concluded their season with a 2-1 victory over Burnley last Sunday (22 May).
