Newcastle United: PIF set for ‘serious talks’ with Eddie Howe amid increasing ‘question marks’
Newcastle United’s slump in form under Eddie Howe will be a point of key discussion at the club’s annual meeting.
That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking to Football Insider, as Howe will meet chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan and minority owner Jamie Reuben in person this week.
Howe was hired as Newcastle manager under the Saudi’s ownership in 2021, and has delivered Champions League football and a major trophy to Tyneside.
However, there have been increasing frustration amongst the fanbase towards Howe, with the Magpies sitting just eight points above the relegation zone, and having lost five consecutive matches in all competitions.
A decision on Howe’s future at Newcastle could be taken at the end of the season, ahead of what will be an important transfer window for the club.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Newcastle’s plans this summer will be discussed at the meeting.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness states that there are “big issues” that need to be resolved.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “They’ve been very keen to try and play this down and say that it’s not a crucial meeting where people will get sacked and all the rest of it.
“It’s supposed to be just business as usual. I tend to believe that to a degree. However, there are some really big issues. Newcastle are now being talked about in relegation terms.
“I say very quietly, and it’s certainly an outside chance. But you can look at the table and there is a possibility. They’re very far from being secure. So I think the whole downturn in form will be a big question mark that’s going to be discussed.
“That’s the reality of it. What the plans are for the summer window and how they’re going to handle that. I know that Ross Wilson and Eddie Howe will be there to meet with the PIF owners. So there’s going to have to be real serious talks about that.
“What are they going to do with some of the existing players they’ve got? So all that will be discussed.”
Newcastle valuation can increase under PIF
Wyness also told Football Insider that PIF have no desire to sell Newcastle, as the club’s valuation could reach £1billion.
That is if the ownership decides to build a new stadium to replace St James’ Park, but no decision has yet been made on whether that will happen.
Newcastle’s current ground currently holds over 52,000 fans, and there is a desire to increase that figure to grow revenue.
The Magpies posted record revenue in their latest financial figures, at £335million, though that remains considerably less than the top Premier League clubs.
