Consistency can be key, and Jamaal Lascelles is starting to show it, in front of England manager Gareth Southgate no less.
It was an unflappable performance at the heart of defence as he marshalled his team mates and stood up to the pace and threat of Palace’s front line.
He looks confident no matter who he lines up against – not good news for Ciaran Clark – as he worked well with Florian Lejeune to keep the away side at bay.
Booked for an altercation with Yohan Cabaye after the Frenchman’s tackle on Yedlin, which, although unnecessary, was good to see the captain showing the passion expected by the Newcastle crowd.
