Like Lascelles, Lejeune looked confident against Palace, despite having picked up a yellow card early on for a cynical foul on Andros Townsend.
It was actually an intelligent foul to make and was probably worth picking up the booking, which shows the Frenchman’s footballing knowledge decision making.
With a performance like this there is no worries about losing his place at the back to Ciaran Clark, and following his injury layoff, could well prove to be a crucial player for the Magpies this season.
