It has been clear for the past few matches that Manquillo is a square peg filling into a round hole, but he has done an admirable job in his unnatural position.
He is quite evidently a right back, and his ability is limited by playing on the opposite flank, which is why Benitez will likely target a new left back in the January transfer window.
Whether he has what it takes to usurp DeAndre Yedlin on the right remains to be seen, but it was another unconvincing performance from the summer signing.
