Newcastle United ready for ‘exciting times’ after confirmed transfer news – pundit
Dan Ashworth has kicked off “exciting times” at Newcastle United after starting his job with the club.
That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Magpies’ first departure of the summer.
On Monday (6 June) Newcastle confirmed Ashworth had started his new job that day, following the Premier League’s approval of his move from Brighton.
24 hours later, the club’s summer overhaul began with Isaac Hayden joining Norwich City on loan until the end of the 2022-23 season.
Hayden is a popular player among the Newcastle fanbase and was inundated with well-wishes following his departure.
However, Kenny insists Hayden’s departure was long overdue but points to a positive future at St James’ Park.
“This is an important time for Newcastle, they need to build on what Eddie Howe did last season,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“Hayden, he might be a popular player but they need to go.
“They have to make room for new signings first and foremost but they also have to move on players who aren’t good enough.
“He has joined a Championship side which tells you all you need to know.
“This has been needed for a long time at Newcastle and it’s all part of the exciting times they are having now.”

Ashworth’s role as sporting director has been newly created at Newcastle.
He joined the club from Brighton after two and a half years on the south coast.
