Kieran Maguire: Amanda Staveley to exploit ‘close links’ as new Newcastle United deal agreed

Amanda Staveley will continue to use her “close links” to the Middle East to agree new business deals after agreeing to stay on as director at Newcastle United.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the St. James’ Park powerbroker’s success in her role so far.

Staveley helped get PIF’s £305million takeover of the Magpies over the line in October last year, and she was appointed to the board soon after.

She has since been the public-facing link between the ultra-rich Saudi owners and the supporters as well as the media.

Staveley has now signed a deal to continue with the Tynesiders, per The Times last Friday (19 August).

Maguire hailed the financier’s influence in the early days of the new Saudi regime.

I think this is the right move,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“Amanda Staveley is front of house as far as the new owners are concerned. She is able with her finance background to have close links with both the UK and the Middle East.

“That helps to smooth things out in terms of culture and philosophy and also the objectives that the club has.

“So, I’m sure PIF are very happy with what she has done to date and will continue to be so.”

Newcastle have taken five points from their first three Premier League matches in 2022-23.

They also beat Tranmere Rovers 2-1 on Wednesday (24 August) to progress to the next round of the League Cup.
