Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes ‘annoyed’ after development – pundit

Bruno Guimaraes could hit “another level” at Newcastle United after a disappointing World Cup with Brazil.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the midfielder mindset.

With England and Brazil’s exits at the quarter-final stage, all of the Toon’s representatives in Qatar have been knocked out of the tournament.

Guimaraes has now returned to Toon training ahead of Tuesday’s (20 December) Carabao Cup clash against Bournemouth.

McManus claims the Brazil midfielder has a point to prove after barely featuring at the World Cup.

“Bruno went there and barely played,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“On one hand that is great for Newcastle because it means he should be fresh and ready to go. He shouldn’t need much of a rest.

“On the other hand, that’s a shame for him because he hasn’t been able to show his best work at the top level of football.

“I think he has a point to prove now. He wants to prove to the next Brazil manager that he should be starting games ahead of the likes of Fred.

“If that pushes him to another level, better than he has been playing for the last few months, then he is going to have some season.

“I do think he will be annoyed. If he feels he has a point to prove then Newcastle are the ones who will benefit.”

Guimaraes has scored three goals in 12 games for Newcastle this season.

The Magpies are third in the table.
