Newcastle news: Expert issues ‘massive’ claim as real reason Callum Wilson is overseas revealed

Sidelined Newcastle United star Callum Wilson has headed out of the country in order to aid his recovery.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Wilson has been out with a calf injury since late December and is not forecasted to return until the final few weeks of the season.

Speaking on his Footballer’s Football Podcast last Thursday (24 February) the striker revealed he is currently completing a rehab programme abroad.

Dinnery claimed that a change of environment could speed up the 30-year-old’s recovery after the “massive disappointment” of injury.

“Wilson has talked about it being an opportunity to de-focus and recalibrate,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“Sometimes after suffering the massive disappointment of an injury, you just need a change of environment.

“It can be a lonely recovery period. You can feel isolated. To go out of the country and get the sun on your back, that’s good.

“There’s a long way to go with his rehab, so you need to be in a good place psychologically to get you through some long, dark days.

“He has said he isn’t responding as quickly as he hoped. A few days abroad is good for the mind, body and soul.

“He’s Newcastle’s talisman and they want him to be in a good place when he does eventually return.”
