Paul Dummett’s defensive counterpart Jamaal Lascelles has just been handed a new contract by the club, but it is the Welsh full back who needs to be banging on Benitez’s door.
His contract is set to expire next summer, and despite having been a stalwart in the Newcastle United defence last season, his future remains uncertain as a result.
With a major injury blow coming in the opening match of the season against Tottenham, the 26-year-old has been unable to prove himself to Benitez this season.
He will have to hope his previous displays have done enough to convince the Spanish manager, or face being shipped out in January
