Newcastle United tipped to seal deal for Enzo Fernandez after latest – ‘he’ll be in England very shortly’, says pundit

Paul Robinson has claimed Enzo Fernandez would be a “brilliant” midfield partner for Bruno Guimaraes at Newcastle United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one expects Fernandez to join a Premier League club “very shortly.”

Fernandez is being tracked by a number of European clubs after helping Argentina win the World Cup.

According to A Bola, via The Sun (27 December), Benfica fear Newcastle will activate Fernandez’s release clause in January.

The centre-midfielder’s release clause is said to be £105million.

When asked by Football Insider if Fernandez would be a welcome addition at St. James’ Park, Robinson said: “I’m sure he’d be interested in a move to Newcastle.

“They’re a big club who are moving in the right direction. I’m sure he’d love to play alongside Bruno Guimaraes as well. They’d be brilliant together.

“I think Fernandez will be in the Premier League very shortly. We all saw how good he is in the World Cup. He is a really top young player.

“I would not be surprised if he went to Newcastle. He would fit into that Eddie Howe system alongside Bruno Guimaraes. They would have one of the best midfields in England if he comes in.

“Fernandez has a lot of potential. Eddie Howe has already demonstrated how good he is at developing players. I think it would be a great move for all parties.”
