Newcastle tipped to sign striker who can fire them to Premier League safety after Wilson update – pundit
Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested Newcastle United will go out and sign a striker who can keep them up in the January transfer window.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker delivered his verdict after a devastating injury blow to star striker Callum Wilson.
Craig Hope of the Daily Mail reported on Tuesday (28 December) Wilson will be out for a number of months after suffering a calf injury during the 1-1 draw with Man United last night (27 December).
Sky Sports reported last Friday (24 December) ex-Man United and Watford striker Odion Ighalo is on a list of striker targets for the January window.
It is claimed Ighalo, who currently plays for Saudia Arabian club Al Shabab, would be interested in a move to St. James’ Park next month.
“They’ve got something that other teams haven’t got – a maximum bank balance to spend in January,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“If they wanted to, they could go and replace Wilson with someone who can keep them up. If they can do that, they will do it.
“The January transfer window is going to be huge for Newcastle.
“I want to know where the Ighalo link has come from. If I’m a Newcastle fan and we’ve got owners who have got £350billion I don’t expect to be signing Ighalo. No offence to Ighalo.

“You’ve got the whole world to choose from. I don’t think that’s a real link.
“Newcastle will be looking at lot better players than Ighalo and players who are a lot younger than Ighalo.”
