Newcastle United news: Kieran Maguire tips PIF to strike £40m deal after fan ‘sacrifice’

Newcastle United could generate up to £40million from a stadium naming rights agreement if the fans give their consent.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the possibility of a St James Park sponsorship deal.

Analysis published by The Athletic last Wednesday (9 February) found that the Magpies could demand £4m per year for a naming rights package.

Supporters were incensed when former owner Mike Ashley rebranded the stadium as the Sports Direct Arena over a decade ago.

But PIF have far more credit among the fanbase in the bank and fans are aware of the need to bring money into the club to fund new signings.

Newcastle posted a job advert on LinkedIn on Tuesday (15 February) for a Legal Counsel to help push through lucrative new commercial deals.

And Maguire argues that a 10-year naming rights deal at a rate of £4m-a-year could be on the cards.

“The stock of PIF is very high,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“It helps that they have just won three in a row, of course.

“The initial reaction of the fanbase would be that it isn’t ideal but that they are still going to call it St James’ Park. It’s a small sacrifice.

“If it generates an extra £4m over the length of a 10-year contract or something like that, it is a price worth paying.

“Anything that accelerates the rise of Newcastle to being a competitor for the big six will be viewed in the same way.”

Newcastle are up to 17th in the Premier League after three consecutive wins.
