Kieran Maguire: Newcastle United to cash in as new agreement reached in Istanbul
Newcastle United will likely push for a greater share of Uefa competition revenues through the European Club Association in the coming years.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the relationship between the two influential governing bodies.
The ECA represents 245 clubs throughout the continent, including the Magpies who are eyeing European qualification with the backing of the Saudi Public Investment Fund.

It was announced at the ECA’s general assembly in Istanbul on 23 September that they and Uefa had signed a letter of intent to create a memorandum of understanding until 2030, signalling closer collaboration between the pair.
Maguire explained how Newcastle will use the new joint venture as an opportunity to lobby for a greater cut of Uefa cash as they look to break into Europe’s elite.
“The main issue for Uefa going forwards over the rest of the decade is how big the pie is going to grow,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“How many slices are there going to be and how are those slices going to be cut?
“The ECA represents the bigger clubs in Europe. They will be trying to ensure they can put soft and hard pressure on Uefa to get the lion’s share of any additional revenue.
“Those clubs that are from smaller nations that aren’t part of the ECA will want a distribution that is going to give them some hope.

“Newcastle are likely to be in the former camp as they hope to be making regular appearances in Europe going forwards.
“Therefore, they are less likely to be seeking solidarity payments like those clubs that have failed to qualify.“
