Finance guru: Newcastle United to exploit ‘lucrative’ American market as new details emerge
Newcastle United will look to market towards Australian and American audiences through their digital presence.
That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Magpies’ plans to expand their global profile.
Newcastle have made a concerted effort to appeal to a Saudi audience following the takeover by the nation’s Public Investment Fund in October last year.

The i reported earlier this month (7 October) that Australia and America are also two territories that the club’s commercial department has zeroed in on.
Both are popular destinations for pre-season tours, and Newcastle are unlikely to visit their owners’ homeland because of the searing temperatures in the region during the summer months.
But Plumley anticipates that it is through the club’s digital channels that they will look to make progress in the two English-speaking territories.
“There are two main ways to grow the footprint in these countries,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“The physical aspect is still there with pre-season tours. Going to those countries directly can be lucrative. We have seen lots of clubs go to America and Australia.
“The other aspect is digital. It’s all about how you engage with the fans when you can’t get to them physically. That’s social media, the metaverse, and streaming sites.

“Both of these approaches are viable strategies but you can see that it could cost less money but generate just as much from the digital approach.
“I think we will see more moves into that digital side of things.”
