Kieran Maguire: Newcastle United could form powerful new alliance after behind-the-scenes win
Newcastle United could form a powerful voting alliance with the so-called big six.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the results of a recent Premier League vote.
Broadcasters have for some time been angling for half-time interviews with managers and greater media access to Premier League training grounds.

But, as relayed by the Daily Mail last Sunday (19 June), the Premier League did not amass the two-thirds majority needed to pass the motion.
It is understood that Newcastle voted against the proposal alongside the ‘big six’ and Nottingham Forest.
Maguire insists that this could be the start of a trend as the top-flight’s elite clubs look to further automate their media output.
“I think we could see them vote en masse in the future,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“One of the opportunities for Newcastle would be for them to launch their own TV channel. We have got Chelsea TV, Man United TV etcetera.
“The reason the big six clubs voted against this proposal is that they are desperate for content. They can’t broadcast matches themselves but what they can do is have increased interviews with staff members and players and so on.
“Newcastle’s ambition is to establish themselves in the Middle East because of the new owners. This is a way of stopping the existing broadcast partners from encroaching into an area that individual clubs feel is theirs.”

Newcastle begin the 2022-23 campaign against Forest on 6 August.
They will prepare for the start of the season with friendlies against Benfica, Atalanta and Athletic Bilbao.
