Kieran Maguire: Newcastle United to whip up ‘global’ frenzy as deals with business giants on cards

Newcastle United will attract attention from a “global” audience if they successfully sell the rights to an All Or Nothing-style documentary to a major streaming service.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Magpies’ apparent quest to strike a deal with a business giant like “Amazon, Netflix or Sky”.

Newcastle have enjoyed a meteoric rise under the ownership of the Saudi Public Investment Fund and currently sit 3rd in the Premier League table as they approach the halfway point of 2022-23.

The Daily Mail reported last Friday (6 January) that the Tynesiders have hired a production team to film behind-the-scenes content as they attempt to qualify for the Champions League for only the third time in their history.

Man City, Arsenal, Leeds United, Sunderland and Wrexham have all been the subjects of popular documentaries in recent years.

Newcastle would enjoy similar commercial gains if they join the list, predicts Maguire.

Newcastle have seen the success of Amazon’s documentary series,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

The likes of Welcome to Wrexham and so on have had real success.

They will feel that, because of the feel-good factor around the club at the moment, it is probably an ideal time to expand the brand and showcase the level of enjoyment among players and fans.

Using a production company puts them in a position to sell that to either Amazon, Netflix or Sky with a view to increasing the global awareness of Newcastle.

When the club is accelerating up the division and having cup success as well, it makes a lot of sense to take this approach.
