Kieran Maguire: Newcastle United to strike multiple new deals and spark ‘social media wars’
Newcastle United are likely to sign multiple new deals with PIF-linked companies and spark conflict on social media.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Magpies’ new sponsorship tie-in with Noon.com
The club announced on Monday (27 June) that they had partnered with the e-commerce platform, whose branding will appear on their sleeves from 2022-23.
The company is part-owned by Newcastle’s Saudi owners, the Public Investment Fund.
Maguire expects that the new arrangement will not be the last of its kind on Tyneside.
“I think it is a logical strategy from the owners,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“They want to raise the profile of their acquisition in Newcastle, as do local business in Saudi because there will be a positive reaction to any connections to Newcastle.
“It’s a natural progression in terms of what has happened with the ownership. Saudi Arabia is a valuable trading partner for the Uk, as we hear from central Government.
“It’s not illegal and it’s beneficial for the club, so expect to see it repeated. Then expect to see wars taking place on social media between those who are for and against it.”

The announcement of the Noon.com deal coincided with the launch of Newcastle’s home shirt for 2022-23.
The shirt features Fun88 as its front-of-shirt sponsor despite reports that the two parties had ended their relationship.
In other news, Newcastle United owners hailed by pundit for “brilliant” £82m development as deal agreed.
