Newcastle United to spend ‘£100m’ in January after ‘incredible’ development – pundit
Newcastle United could spend £100million in January to secure a place in the Premier League’s top seven.
That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Magpies’ form.
Newcastle secured their fourth win of the season by beating Everton 1-0 at St James’ Park on Wednesday (19 October).
That result kept Newcastle sixth.
Eddie Howe’s side have also only lost once in the league this season.
McManus claims the club’s owners could sanction another spending spree in January to guarantee European football for next season.
“I really like watching Newcastle, they are fantastic to watch,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.
“This season couldn’t have gone much better so far, I mean, one loss after 11 league games, they hadn’t won this time last season.
“Eddie Howe deserves huge amounts of credit because they are absolutely flying, it’s incredible. They say to judge the table after 10 games and Newcastle are right up there.
“There is no reason that Newcastle can’t be playing European football of some description next season.
“If they are still there in January then I think you could see money being spent against in January. Another £100million maybe.
“These owners want to get to the top of football as quick as they can and I think if they see Newcastle doing well then they will try to build on that.”

Newcastle are next in action against Tottenham on Sunday (23 October).
Spurs sit five points ahead of the Magpies as it stands.
