Newcastle United to ‘unlock’ more mega-money deals after two agreed – ‘the wheels are in motion’

Former Everton chief Keith Wyness has backed Newcastle United to boost their revenue by “unlocking” the Saudi Public Investment Fund’s role at the club.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed he would be “very surprised if the wheels are not in motion”.

Newcastle have recorded back-to-back losses (£73.4million for 2022-23 and £70.7million in 2021-22) since the PiF-backed takeover of the club in 2021.

The Magpies agreed a £25million-a-year shirt sponsorship deal with Saudi events management company Sela last year (2023).

They have also reached a £40million-a-year agreement with sportswear giants Adidas to become their shirt manufacturer from the 2024-25 campaign onwards.

‘Wheels in motion’ to ‘unlock’ more Saudi cash at Newcastle, says Wyness

Nevertheless, Wyness has insisted there are further opportunities to give Newcastle a “global reach” and boost revenues.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “They’ll be looking at ways to introduce more money into the club, I’m sure.

“That’ll be through some types of sponsorship, they’ve got to unlock the Saudi role in a bigger way.

“International sponsorships will be a key factor for them, and certainly the stable of companies that PiF have investments in is something which is yet to be unlocked.

“That can be done under the rules.

“The global reach has got to come to fruition for Newcastle.

“I think they’ll be aware of that, and I’d be very surprised if the wheels are not in motion already.”
