Newcastle United told to pull plug on Allan Saint-Maximin sale after source’s update – pundit

Newcastle United should not look to move on Allan Saint-Maximin even if they sign another winger.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Frenchman’s future.

On Saturday (13 August), club sources told Football Insider that Newcastle are willing to sell Allan Saint-Maximin this month as they look to recruit a top-class forward.

The winger’s last goal in any competition for the Magpies came on 15 January in a 1-1 draw with Watford.

Newly-rich Newcastle are yet to recruit any attackers this summer with clubs quoting inflated prices for their in-demand stars.

Kenny claims Newcastle need to keep some continuity and shouldn’t be looking to move the old guard on too quickly.

“We know Newcastle have decent players,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“But they don’t want to replace everyone at once. You look at the starting side now and the defence and midfielder are completely different to last season.

“You can’t compare them. To change up the attack as well. I’m not sure it is needed right now. Reinforcements, yes.

“Complete overhaul? Not yet. So maybe if they are going to bring in another winger then you keep the guys who are already there for another season.

“I wouldn’t change too much too quickly.”

Saint-Maximin has made 94 total appearances for Newcastle since joining the club from Nice in the summer of 2019.

He has scored 12 goals and registered 16 assists.
