Newcastle United told to pull plug on deal to sign Chris Wood replacement as talks underway – pundit

Alan Hutton has claimed Newcastle United have enough options going forward that they won’t miss Chris Wood.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa striker has backed Alexander Isak to return to his best after his injury.

On 20 January, the Magpies confirmed Chris Wood has joined Nottingham Forest on loan with an obligation to buy.

Last week (20 January), this site revealed that Eddie Howe’s side are working on signing another forward as Wood, 31, departs.

Ryan Fraser has also been told he can quit St James’ Park this month if a suitable offer arrives.

The north-east giants are now keen to bring in a versatile attacker and preliminary discussions are underway with top targets that fit the age profile of the kind of player Newcastle want.

When asked if Howe’s side need another attacker, Hutton told Football Insider:I would never say never.

Callum Wilson is a fantastic player but injury-wise it sometimes creeps up on him.

Isak is back now after an injury, was unlucky to pick that up but you would like to think he is back and even stronger. They have got some options there.

Joelinton can obviously fill in at times so they have got options.

I do not think it is their top target to go and get a forward, I do not really think they need it at this moment in time but you never know.
