Newcastle United transfer news: Kieran Maguire reveals £295m ‘domino effect’
Newcastle United were one of the main factors in the “domino effect” that led to £295million of January signings in the Premier League.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Magpies activity in the mid-season window.
Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood, Bruno Guimaraes, Matt Targett and Dan Burn signed for the Magpies in a recruitment drive worth around £85million.

The Daily Mail reported yesterday (4 February) that sports analysts have concluded that Newcastle paid £22m over market value for the quintet.
Football business experts Deloitte released figures on 1 February which showed Premier League clubs had spent £295m on new signings in total.
The rest of Europe’s – La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 – spent £317m combined.
Maguire argues that Newcastle, as the biggest spenders in January, were the catalyst for the sky-high levels of investment in England.
“From the position of Newcastle, I’m not a fan of trickle-down economics but we have seen a domino effect,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“They have bought Chris Wood, so Burnley have gone and signed a striker. They have signed Dan Burn, so Brighton have gone out and signed someone.
“If you spend money, it often becomes one out, one in. So it will ripple through the transfer market.
“With Newcastle, it’s the case that there is a new kid in town and that kicks off this domino effect.
“However, it should also be noted that there are an awful lot of clubs, seven or eight, that haven’t spent a bean.”

Newcastle are next in action against Everton next Tuesday (8 February).
They could hand debuts to Targett, Burn and Guimaraes in that clash.
