Everton's updated stance on Jacob Murphy deal revealed

Everton remain keen on signing Newcastle winger Jacob Murphy as David Moyes eyes a cut-price deal, sources have told Football Insider.

The Toffees' summer business is ramping up as the new Premier League campaign quickly approaches.

They are currently closing in on a swap deal that is set to see Brennan Johnson head to Merseyside from Crystal Palace in place of Dwight McNeil.

Murphy has been linked with a move to Everton since the end of last season, with an exit made more likely by Eddie Howe's Newcastle departure.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Everton are continuing to keep tabs on Murphy as a potential deal is lined up for the final few weeks of the window.

New Magpies boss Matthias Jaissle is set to hold talks with Murphy about his future this week, with his current contract set to expire in 2027.

Murphy was a standout in 2024-25, but struggled to make an impact last season as he registered four goals and five assists in 46 games.

Sources have revealed to Football Insider that Murphy wants to fight for his place at Newcastle under Jaissle, but Everton are waiting to pounce if he is told to leave.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "Murphy, he was linked with Everton very early on in the window, but that interest seems to have cooled a bit, but we know that Everton are still in the market for wide players and Murphy would tick a lot of boxes for them.

"He could be available for relatively cheap due to his contract situation, and he is Premier League proven with lots of experience as well

Murphy and Pope are two of Newcastle's longest-serving players, but could each leave this summer as the club enters a new era under Jaissle.

The new Magpies boss insisted last week that Pope "knows exactly the situation right now," in a hint towards him being told he can leave St James' Park.

Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Pope wants to stay at Newcastle beyond the close of the window as he looks to fight for his place with new signings Lukas Hornicek and Ewen Jaouen.
