Everything Matthias Jaissle has said about Newcastle target Nicolas Seiwald
RB Leipzig's Nicolas Seiwald is the latest target to emerge as Matthias Jaissle prepares for his first season as Newcastle United boss.
The 25-year-old has experience under Newcastle's new manager, with an increasing number targets emerging due to Red Bull links.
With a desire to sign new full-backs, the Magpies appear to be closing in on a deal for Benfica's Amar Dedic, who was at RB Salzburg at the same time as Jaissle.
And Seiwald is unlikely to be the last. It is hardly a surprise to see these links emerge, and it is integral that Jaissle gets some of these deals across the line.
Newcastle have lost Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali during the summer, with speculation still surrounding Lewis Hall as well.
Seiwald could be the next signing to fill a huge gap in the current squad, and fans will be desperate to know what the Austrian international would bring to the team.
Nicolas Seiwland has followed Matthias Jaissle before
The 25-year-old was a key figure during Jaissle's time at Salzburg, playing over a century of games for the Austrian giants between 2020 and 2023.
In that time, he clearly impressed the manager, following him to the Bundesliga with Leipzig in the summer of 2023, where he has since played 105 games.
Following his arrival in Germany [Sky Sports], Jaissle said: "First of all, I’m glad the topic is settled so he can clear his head again.
"I’m happy that he’s taking the next step in the summer — he has absolutely earned it. He is a leader for us, he grew up here and has developed magnificently."
Loved for his high work rate, pressing intensity and excellent ball-winning ability, Seiwald is likely to be a player that St James' Park instantly falls in love with.
Who else could Newcastle United's new boss poach?
Dedic and Seiwald could both be signed in the coming days, but they are not nearly the most exciting of Jaissle's former players.
Al Ahli's Ivan Toney is a name floating around St James Park, and understandably so, given his pedigree and ability in the final third.
The 30-year-old has netted 72 goals in 94 games since signing for the Saudi Pro League side, constantly being linked with a Premier League return.
Due to his success under Jaissle, supporters will be hoping that these rumours can really come to fruition before the window slams shut.
