Fabian Schar can start packing his bags as source reveals Newcastle's Dan Burn plan
Fabian Schar will surely leave Newcastle at the end of this season as they plan to extend Dan Burn's contract in the coming months.
Burn and Schar are each nearing the end of their current contracts at Newcastle in June 2027.
The 34-year-olds are taking a back seat this season as Matthias Jaissle makes Sven Botman and Malick Thiaw his first choice centre-back partnership.
Burn has been injured since the start of this season, but Newcastle's chiefs are keen to offer him extended terms to keep him at the club past next summer.
Schar will surely not be offered a new deal if Burn is, with reports stating that they remain in the market for a new, younger centre-back.
He has been a solid servant for Newcastle for several seasons, but it seems like a natural end to his career at the club for him to leave upon the expiry of his contract.

Schar was an important part of Newcastle's rise under Eddie Howe and is one of their longest-serving players as it stands.
His 2025-26 season ended prematurely in January due to a serious ankle injury, but he was handed a one-year contract extension by the club despite being sidelined.
Burn is in a similar position right now as he sits out injured ahead of the end of his contract next summer, but sources have revealed to Football Insider that Newcastle will offer him a new deal as he prepares to agree to a wage cut.
The Athletic recently reported that Newcastle will prioritise a new centre-back addition in January if they are to enter the market.
Both of those factors look set to combine to ultimately end Schar's career at the club, unless he can win his place in the starting eleven and impress Matthias Jaissle to the point of earning a new deal.
Newcastle could be making the wrong call with Burn and Schar
When their stats from last season are compared, it is tough to understand why Burn is set to kept on over Schar at St James' Park.
Schar made more interceptions (1.48), blocks (0.99), recoveries (3.55), successful passes (55.4) and successful long passes (5.86) per 90 than his England international teammate last season.
Burn came out on top for duels (6.18) and aerial duels (4.01) per 90, but only marginally, while Schar was dispossessed (0.08) and dribbled past (0.49) fewer times per 90, and Newcastle conceded less per 90 (1.07) while he was on the pitch.
