Lewis Miley has the potential to be one of Newcastle United's biggest stars at St James' Park over the next decade.

Having come through the academy, supporters are desperate for the 20-year-old to make it with the Magpies, much like his brother, Mason.

And right now, he's one of Matthias Jaissle's most consistent performers in what has been an extremely rocky start to the 2026-27 campaign.

It was always going to be difficult. The Magpies sold multiple key stars and went in a very different direction with their summer transfer tactics.

Sitting 11th in the Premier League currently, it could be a lot worse, but whispers are already beginning to emerge around Jaissle's future.

Any decisions now would be wholly unfair on the 38-year-old, especially when he continues to be handed fresh injury blows at St James' Park.

Newcastle United injury news drops pre-Crystal

Nico Gonzalez, Joelinton and Will Osula have all returned from injury, with Bazoumana Toure avoiding a serious setback against Coventry City.

Even Dan Burn was joined on the bench by Amar Dedic, who has been sidelined off and on over the last few weeks.

And although he was seen on the bench against Aston Villa on Saturday, 17 October, it is unlikely to be a positive sign ahead of the next game.

Sources have told iNews (19 October) that he was not considered match fit against the Villans, but was put on the bench by Jaissle anyway.

It is understood that, while he could return against Crystal Palace, he is highly unlikely to play the full 90 minutes at Selhurst Park.

Lewis Miley stuck at right-back again

With constant injury setbacks, all fingers point towards Miley, once again, starting at right-back instead of his normal midfield position.

Although the youngster will just be glad to be getting consistent minutes, it will be frustrating for the player that he's not able to prove himself in the middle of the park.

Tino Livramento is still out, and is unlikely to return anytime soon, so Miley's extended run in the side is only going to continue this weekend.

Luckily for Jaissle, Miley is willing to do absolutely anything for the Newcastle shirt, so he won't kick up a fuss. That doesn't mean it won't be frustrating for the player.
