Newcastle fans 'won't be happy' after source's Matthias Jaissle sack update

Matthias Jaissle is at risk of losing the support of the Newcastle United fans if their results do not improve quickly.

The 38-year-old enjoyed a strong start to life at St James' Park, going unbeaten in his first three Premier League games, but has now won just one of his last five.

Recent results against Leeds United and Coventry City sparked the growing concerns, but a 1-0 defeat at home against Aston Villa has put the home crowd on edge.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown warned Football Insider that Newcastle's fans could "turn" on Jaissle quickly if their home form takes a turn for the worse.

Expectations are high at St James' Park despite what was a difficult summer, and failure to match their lofty ambitions could see pressure grow on the boss' position.

While there is no expectation that Jaissle will lose his job as things stand, there is a growing performances that things must improve if he wants to ease the concerns.

Could Newcastle sack Matthias Jaissle?

Football Insider revealed on 16 October that Newcastle have no plans to sack Jaissle in the immediate future despite suggestions he could be in line to lose his job.

The Magpies have endured a mixed start to the season under the new boss, with two twins, two draws and three defeats from their opening seven Premier League games.

Jaissle is extremely highly regarded by the ownership at Newcastle, and is believed to have retained their backing, but if the fans start to turn he could be put in a tricky position.

"Newcastle are a huge club, with a very passionate fanbase, and they have extremely high expectations," Brown told Football Insider.

"For the new manager going in there, he would have known what was expected of him, because they want to be fighting at the top end of the Premier League.

"It was a strong start to the season but that's dropped off a bit now with recent results, and that's bound to be a concern for him.

"The big problem he will face, though, is that these fans could turn on him quickly if his side aren't getting results at home like in the game against Aston Villa.

"Newcastle fans expect St James' Park to be a fortress, they demand good performances and good results, so if Jaissle starts losing games at home then that will be a problem.

"I would be surprised if he was sacked so soon after he was appointed, because things haven't been that bad, but these fans can get restless quickly and he has to ensure he keeps them on his side."

How much would it cost Newcastle to sack Jaissle?

While Jaissle is not expected to be sacked by Newcastle any time soon, the growing questions surrounding his position have led to doubts about his long-term future.

However, having penned a four-year contract in August to commit himself to Newcastle until 2030, there are doubts about the potential payout involved if they pull the trigger.

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson told Football Insider that Newcastle will not be deterred by the fee involved, which will be equal to six months of his yearly salary.

Any settlement would likely be worth a maximum of £5million, with everything already predetermined as is the case in many situations after managerial appointments.

Despite no plans being in place to sack Jaissle as things stand, there are not expected to be any major roadblocks if they do decide to make a change.
