Newcastle 'concerned' about Bazoumana Toure after new twist - 'The manager doesn't rate him'

Newcastle United are concerned about the lack of first-team minutes afford to big-money signing Bazoumana Toure this season.

The Magpies forked out £42million to land the 20-year-old from Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim, but he has yet to start a Premier League game under Matthias Jaissle's leadership.

That is despite his impact off the bench, where he scored during the 4-1 defeat against Leeds, while he also scored in his only start of the season, in the Carabao Cup against West Brom.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown warned Football Insider that Toure hasn't done enough to impress Jaissle and must earn his place in the Newcastle starting XI.

Despite showing glimpses of quality off the bench, the fact the winger is not starting games despite Newcastle's on-pitch struggles will be flagged as a concern.

Given the amount of money spent to bring him to Newcastle in the summer, there is a growing desire for Toure to step up his performances and prove his worth.

Why are Newcastle worried about Bazoumana Toure?

Football Insider revealed on 1 October that Toure has shown he has the potential to be a key player for Newcastle, and he has been backed to explode if given the chance.

However, there are doubts about when the winger will finally make his first Premier League start for the Magpies, with Jaissle clearly preferring other players in his position.

That has become a concern for the Newcastle board, who are facing stick for a number of their signings who have so far struggled to hit the ground running.

"Newcastle are right to be concerned that Toure hasn't been starting games just yet," Brown told Football Insider.

"When you spend nearly £50million on a player, you expect them to have an immediate impact and be ready to play first-team football on a regular basis, even if they're young.

"He obviously showed enough quality at his previous club to convince Newcastle he was worth that fee, so the question is, why hasn't he been starting games?

"I think the manager doesn't rate him, or at least not enough to trust him from the start, so at the moment he prefers to give him opportunities from the bench.

"If he's not impressing when given those opportunities, or he hasn't impressed on the training ground, then it's the manager prerogative not to put him in the starting XI.

"Toure needs to show he's deserving of a place in the side, so yes Newcastle will be concerned that he hasn't been starting, but it's up to the player to earn those starts."

Which other players are Newcastle concerned about?

Toure is not the only Newcastle player who has raised red flags after hardly featuring under Jaissle, with youngster Sean Steur also having controversially struggled for minutes.

Football Insider reported on 19 October that Jaissle's excuse that Steur needs time to adapt is "senseless" after he showed impressive signs before the international break.

The 18-year-old has spent the entirety of the last two Premier League games on the bench for the Magpies, despite starting the season excellently.

Steur cost Newcastle £23million to sign from Ajax in the summer transfer window and has emerged a serious talent, but given his lack of recent minutes, concerns are growing.
