Newcastle fans fume at 'criminal' Jacob Murphy to Nottingham Forest update
Newcastle fans cannot wrap their head around their club reportedly rejecting a new bid of £15million from Nottingham Forest for winger Jacob Murphy.
Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope has reported in the last hour, via X, that Newcastle have knocked back a second offer from their Premier League rivals for the 31-year-old.
He claimed on Monday night that Forest had seen a bid of around £10m rejected by Newcastle, with Matthias Jaissle keen to keep him on Tyneside.
Murphy has now been the subject of a £15m offer from the Reds, but the Magpies' stance on a sale has not changed.
The 31-year-old has come in for some criticism with Newcastle fans over the last 12 months, after his form suffered a clear drop-off compared to the 2024-25 campaign.
He is their current longest-serving player and recently entered the final year of his contract, with supporters struggling to understand their club's point of view after this latest rejection.
Newcastle fans want Jacob Murphy sold after £15m offer
Murphy is valued by new boss Jaissle, who has quickly come to appreciate the impact he has behind the scenes at St James' Park, according to club insider Hope.
He has racked up 226 appearances for the club since joining from Norwich City all the way back in July 2017, but only registered nine goal contributions in 46 games last season.
That came after he struck 23 contributions in 41 games during the previous campaign, so fans feel like he is on a downward spiral as he reaches the latter stages of his career.
Newcastle are reluctant to sell this late in the window without a replacement lined up, yet fans are raging at such a high offer being rejected.
One took to X to react to the latest news by saying: "I get that he's experienced, but that is criminal."
While another said: "This is beyond insanity. What are they doing?!?!?! SELL SELL SELL."
And one supporter posted to say: "Absolutely crazy (decision) with one year left on his contract...this is not smart business. £15m, we'll never get an offer like that for Murphy again."
Jaissle has already hinted at Murphy staying at Newcastle
Sources told Football Insider in early August that Newcastle chiefs want Murphy to sign a new contract before his current deal expires next summer.
Jaissle's his public quotes have only ever pointed to the 31-year-old being set to stay for this season.
The new Magpies boss spoke of a "vaccum" of leadership in the squad in his first few days at the club last month, following the departures of several key men.
He then handed Murphy the captain's armband in pre-season before Dan Burn was given the role full-time, so clearly rates him as a leader in his squad, meaning it would make little sense to let him leave from his point of view.
