Newcastle United's January transfer plans revealed after new 'strategic direction'
Matthias Jaissle is unlikely to make any major additions to the Newcastle United squad when the January window rolls around.
That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that Newcastle fans will have to remain patient at St James' Park.
Supporters were left baffled by the club's decision to replace Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes with some very inexperienced talents.
With the Magpies sitting 11th in the Premier League after six games, it might not have been the perfect start to the season, but it could be much worse.
Sean Steur, Aladji Bamba, Lukas Hornicek and Bazoumana Toure have all impressed in bursts, while the likes of Lewis Hall and Yoane Wissa have stepped into leadership rolls.
There is no doubt that some aspects of the squad still require improvements, but that is unlikely to come during the January window.
Newcastle United fans must remain patient
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson admitted that the Magpies could sign some more future talents, but the splashing of cash is not a certainty.
"I suspect they don't have huge capacity. They might have some capacity in January, but they've obviously gone down a strategic direction of young players," he said.
"And so, if they sign more young players in January, these sorts of 21-year-olds, Newcastle fans are still going to have to wait.
"So I think it's just about being patient and watching how things balance out over time.
"The league's all over the place anyway in terms of who's beating who, and it still needs that sort of shake-up. We're still very, very, early days."
Who has Newcastle been linked with?
Right now, it seems far more likely that players will leave St James' Park in January, rather than Jaissle bringing players into the squad.
Joe Willock is now unlikely to sign a new contract, meaning that the Magpies will have to sell him in January to get any fee at all.
Atalanta's Lorenzo Bernasconi, RB Leipzig's Antonio Nusa, Sporting CP superstar Issa Doumbia and Petar Sucic of Inter Milan have all been linked in recent days.
However, it does seem unlikely that any of them will emerge as concrete targets once the January transfer window swings open.
