Newcastle's two reasons for rejecting Nottingham Forest's Jacob Murphy offers revealed
Matthias Jaissle sees Jacob Murphy as key to his plans at Newcastle this season after they turned down offers for him late in the window, sources have told Football Insider.
Newcastle rejected two separate offers for Murphy from Nottingham Forest in the last two days of the summer transfer window.
The second of those was believed to be worth around £15million, but he stayed put on Tyneside as Jaissle stood firm in his desire to keep him.
Many fans were angered by Newcastle's stance on a sale, especially with Murphy coming to the end of his existing contract this season.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Jaissle pushed for Murphy to stay as he admires his leadership and wants to utilise him in several different roles throughout this campaign.
Murphy has racked up 226 appearances for the Magpies since joining from Norwich in 2017, making him their current longest-serving player as it stands.

Murphy has made substitute appearances in both of Newcastle's league games so far, while he started in their Carabao Cup win over West Brom.
Forest's £15m offer was a lot for Newcastle to turn down in the context of his career, but proved how much Jaissle rates him as an option in his squad for the season ahead.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "Obviously, they turned down those offers from Forest, with Newcastle making it clear that he remains part of the plans under Matthias Jaissle. He wasn't keen to lose such a versatile player as Murphy.
"I also think Jaissle didn't want to lose somebody like Murphy because he is an important figure within the dressing room as well, and a good player who can play so many roles in that Newcastle side."
What has Jaissle said about the Murphy transfer situation?
Sources revealed to Football Insider last month that Murphy wanted to stay at Newcastle despite Eddie Howe's departure, and he has since also become a favourite of new boss Jaissle.
The German manager spoke to reporters on Friday about why the 31-year-old and teammate Joe Willock were not sold, despite offers, in the recent window.
He said: "We have a well-balanced squad. The lads were doing good in the pre-season. They showed their quality, they still have potential to do even better, and therefore, we made the decision that this is the final squad.
"It's not only these two players. In a long transfer window, there are many approaches for different players. It's important you have conversations with the players, that you're honest, transparent and clear about what you expect from them, but also what they expect from the club and the gaffer. Everyone knows exactly where they are at which stage they are in the squad and then it was the decision that they stayed here."
