Sean Neave's latest data will worry Newcastle as he faces axe
Sean Neave could become an outcast at Wolves after failing to stake his claim for a regular starting berth in their Championship promotion push.
Neave was allowed to leave Newcastle on loan in the summer, as he bolstered newly-relegated Wolves' attacking ranks.
The 19-year-old made his professional debut for the Magpies last season and has started to feature relatively regularly for Cesar Peixoto's side as they struggle for automatic promotion form.
An injury crisis within his squad has seen the Newcastle loanee drafted into the starting eleven for Wolves' last two Championship games.
Neave has struggled to make his mark over the last week, however, and his latest showing against Portsmouth could be cause for concern going forward.
The teen loanee may well face some time out of the Old Gold team as other forwards impress and return to the fold following injury concerns.
Sean Neave under pressure to make a difference at Wolves after poor Portsmouth showing
Wolves manager Cesar Peixoto is under pressure as it stands following their disappointing run of three wins from the last nine games.
Neave has been handed more chances than some may have expected over the last few matches due to injuries to Adam Armstrong and Raul Jimenez.
He provided an assist in a victory at Burnley last Friday, as fellow young striker Tawanda Chirewa scored the winner, then was handed a successive starting berth as they hosted Pompey in midweek.
Neave struggled on home turf with the pressure on against John Mousinho's side, though, as he took just 11 touches, had 50 per cent pass accuracy (3/6) and won one of five attempted ground duels (20 per cent).
He was also booked after committing two fouls as Peixoto hooked the Magpies loan man off at half-time and Chirewa outperformed him from the bench once more.
Neave is surely now behind the Zimbabwean international in the Old Gold striker pecking order, and Armstrong is set to return to the squad against Watford this weekend following his injury woes to lessen his chances of more game time even further.
Wolves backed to improve by Opta's latest Championship predictions
Peixoto's side sit seventh in the second tier right now, with 18 points picked up in their first 11 outings.
Neave will be aiming to play his part in an upturn in form, whether it be under the current manager or someone else, and Wolves are being backed to improve throughout the campaign.
Opta's supercomputer is backing the club to finish fifth in the Championship this season as it stands, with 75 projected points and a 55.9 per cent chance of making the play-offs.
They are given a 17.78 per cent chance of finishing in the top two, but West Ham and Middlesbrough are currently most likely to end up in those spots.
