Sources: Felix Nmecha's stance on joining Newcastle revealed
Felix Nmecha is unsure about joining Newcastle this summer as they are unable to offer him Champions League football for the upcoming season, sources have told Football Insider.
Newcastle have identified Nmecha as a target to bolster their midfield amid a major shake-up of Eddie Howe's squad.
Sandro Tonali completed a £100million move to Tottenham last week, while Bruno Guimaraes has reportedly asked to leave as Arsenal eye his services.
Nmecha recently impressed on the biggest stage with Germany at the World Cup, while he has been a regular for Borussia Dortmund for several seasons now.
Even though the Magpies admire the 25-year-old, he is set to snub their interest in favour of joining a club with UCL football on offer, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast.
Dortmund remain hugely keen to keep hold of his services this summer too, and him staying put can not be ruled out as it stands.
Felix Nmecha to Newcastle latest as interest emerges
Sources have revealed to Football Insider that Dortmund have placed a £100m price tag on Nmecha to dissuade interested parties.
He registered six goals and three assists in 47 appearances last season, with the German giants finishing second to retain their place in the Champions League while Newcastle came 13th in the Premier League.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "For Nmecha, if he were to leave Dortmund, I would imagine he would want to join a club that can offer him Champions League football and playing at the highest level.
"Unfortunately, Newcastle don't have Champions League football this season, so it's going to be difficult for them to land those top, marquee signings, in that respect.
"With Dortmund not willing to sell Nmecha, I would imagine it'll be a difficult deal to do for Newcastle, and the German club are still counting on Nmecha as well. I think they'll be doing everything they can to keep hold of him."
Which other clubs are keen on Nmecha?
Nmecha was a standout in the group stage for his country, as he scored his second international goal against Curacao and registered an assist against Ivory Coast.
Their premature exit at the hands of Paraguay has accelerated talk around his future, however, with the likes of Bayern Munich and Chelsea each linked.
As well as those clubs and Newcastle, sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Man United have shortlisted Nmecha as a top target to bolster their own midfield options.
Michael Carrick wants the Dortmund star to replace Casemiro in his starting eleven after missing out on several other candidates.
