Sources: Newcastle's updated stance on Matthias Jaissle's position revealed
Newcastle United have no plans to sack Matthias Jaissle in the near future as he retains the board's backing, sources have told Football Insider.
The 38-year-old is facing growing calls for his head after a mixed start to the season at St James' Park, but the board have yet to see anything to spark major concerns.
While there is a feeling he needs to put together a run of wins if he is to silence his growing list of doubters, the manager retains the support of the club's hierarchy.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, alarm bells have been rining at Newcastle as a result of their recent dip in form.
Defeats against Leeds, Coventry and Aston Villa have sparked questions about the manager's future in the dugout, but the board are not expected to pull the trigger just yet.
Instead, they are prepared to cope with inconsistent results in the early stages of his tenure, and maintain that Jaissle is the man they want to lead the club forward.
Why is Matthias Jaissle under pressure?
Former Man United coach Mick Brown told Football Insider on 20 October that Jaissle is not to blame for Newcastle's struggles, with the board called upon to take responsibility.
While they are prepared to do that to an extent, and are expecting some inconsistent results, there is a feeling that the finger will inevitably be pointed at the manager.
Jaissle is now expected to turn his side's recent form around, and while he still has the board's backing, further defeats could change their stance.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "There is a bit of pressure growing on Matthias Jaissle at Newcastle, there's no getting away from that.
"I think it's been the manner of some of those defeats, those away defeats to Leeds and Coventry, where really they were a bit meek in those and were sort of bullied and out-fought.
"Those defeats did set a few alarm bells ringing, but I don't think there's any panic just yet from the Newcastle board.
"They're fully aware that this is going to be a transitional season because obviously there was a lot of upheaval during the summer transfer window, with big players leaving.
"Matthias Jaislle I'm sure is fully aware of that as well that there's going to be a lot of bumps in the road as well, but there's no internal pressure from the Newcastle hierarchy just yet."
When could Newcastle sack Jaissle?
Jaissle appears to have the full support of the Newcastle board during what is a transitional period for them, with major changes taking place on the pitch during the summer.
The fact so many key players have moved on and been replaced by younger options has afforded the manager some grace, but there is a feeling that may not last long.
Brown warned Football Insider on 20 October that Newcastle fans could start to turn on Jaissle if their home form takes a dive following the defeat to Aston Villa,
The 38-year-old enjoyed a strong start to life at St James' Park, going unbeaten in his first three Premier League games, but has now won just one of his last five.
Expectations are high at Newcastle despite what was a difficult summer, and failure to match the fans' lofty ambitions could see pressure grow on the boss' position.
