Newcastle fans will love what Ralf Rangnick once said about Nicolas Seiwald
RB Leipzig’s Nicolas Seiwald has reportedly emerged as Newcastle United’s latest target this summer as they look to reinforce their midfield.
The 25-year-old defensive midfielder is someone Matthias Jaissle is a big fan of, with the Magpies making an equiry for the star in recent days.
Newcastle are in desperate need of midfield reinforcements and could soon make a move for the Austrian international as they search for replacements for Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes.
Leipzig do not want to let Seiwald go, and the midfielder is still firmly a part of their plans for the upcoming campaign.
This is of little surprise given the quality he possesses, which has been praised throughout his career by numerous key figures.
One of the most notable is former Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick, who has been quick to highlight Seiwald’s positive mentality in the past.
Ralf Rangnick: Nicolas Seiwald has a top mentality
Rangnick and Seiwald both currently work together through the Austrian National Team, with the manager selecting the midfielder for the 2026 World Cup.
His performances for RB Leipzig no doubt helped the 25-year-old reach the summer tournament, where he made four appearances before the nation was knocked out by Spain.
However, Rangnick has been a fan of Seiwald long before the recent World Cup.
Back in 2023, the former Man United boss was quick to heap praise on the midfielder after he secured a move to RB Leipzig.
He told Die Zeit on28 February 2023: "He is an absolute professional. His development over the past two years alone shows how important such an attitude towards his profession is: he always plays and is never injured. As a coach, it's an absolute pleasure to work with such a player.”
He later added: "Nici is a prime example of what's possible with a top mentality. A player who always wants to improve and absorbs everything that makes him better.”
Who else could Newcastle sign this summer?
Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Chelsea flop Liam Delap is open to the idea of moving to Newcastle United this summer.
The Magpies' long-term interest in the frontman remains, and Chelsea have made it clear that he has no long-term future at Stamford Bridge.
The 23-year-old has made it clear that he wants to remain in the Premier League, with Nottingham Forest and Everton also interested in the attacker.
A move to St James’ Park would also appeal to Delap, who will be looking to get his career back on track after a poor debut campaign at Stamford Bridge.
Xabi Alonso does not see the striker as part of his long-term plans, and he is almost certain to leave before the transfer window closes.
However, it remains to be seen if the Magpies are going to be the club to win the race to his signature.
